Treatment of antepartum depression

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Here is an interesting study using bright light therapy to treat antepartum depression.  More and more we are seeing bright light therapy being used successfully to treat non-seasonal depressions.  This study was done by the Pychiatry Department at Yale University.  The link below is to a short description of the study on the U.S. National Library of Medicine site.  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11925310

Light Therapy For Psoriasis

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Here is a question I get more often than you would think.  What is the best light for the treatment of Psoriasis?

Turns out that ultraviolet A (UV A) or ultraviolet B (UV B) is the best way to use lights to treat Psoriasis.  Here is an article that appeared today on mayoclinic.org that talks about it.  http://www.mayoclinic.org/news2008-mchi/4636.html?rss-feedid=4

So which light box should I choose if I want to treat my Psoriasis?

Most full spectrum bulbs are going to produce the UVA and UVB.  But most light box manufacturers will block the UV’s with the diffuser (that plastic thing with the diamond pattern that spreads or “diffuses” the light).  Our Port A Sun does not filter out the UV rays so that is what we would recommend.  Just make sure you get the Full Spectrum model, not the Blue Lux version.
